Boston

Welcome to the Architecture for Humanity Boston page!
Although the Chapter has been active for years, we are only now getting around to putting some information up here so please bear with us.
The Chapter meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Boston Society of Architects, 290 Congress
Street, Boston at 6:30pm. We have a number of local and international projects going and welcome anyone who would like to participate from students, community members, professionals or any combination of the above. We can use the help of fundraisers, researchers, designers and activists so please don't hesitate to contact us at info@AfHB.org

90 Windsor Street: Lower Roxbury Community Cultural Arts Center
Inactive
Chapter Project located in
Boston
United States
Project Name: 90 Windsor Street Lower Roxbury Community Cultural Arts Center Project Type: 6) architecture Project Mission/Goal: 1) improve the human spirit roject Mission/Goal: Project Description: In November 2008, the abandoned, community owned 90 Windsor St. building went up for sale but thanks to dedicated members of the United Neighbors of Lower Roxbury (UNLR), they rallied to oppose the sale and were abel to save the site. Since then, UNLR proposed a new community cultural center that has a positive social, economic and environmental impact. Before its abandonment in 1997, the building served as a gathering space for neighbors first and a church and then later developed into a community center, with a focus in the cultural arts, the environment and leadership development. The renovation will use passive solar elements, super-insulation and other environmental, green design aspects to achieve a 50% reduction in annual energy consumption. The project aims to foster opportunities for community organization, leadership development, and cultural programming. The community center also hopes to provide affordable office space and conference rooms for lease. Teaching opportunities in urban gardening, computer education, and career guidance are also proposed.
